Hot and Wet – Recap of Montreal’s International Reggae Fest (Aug. 15-17th)

Although we are enjoying the nice warm weather of this end of August now, the weather was far pretty a week ago. Luckily, the pouring rain didn’t seem to bother the thousands of fans who headed to Montreal’s Old Port for the International Reggae Festival. Divided in 3 days, the event reunited many popular west indian artists such as Sean Paul, Luciano, Maxi Priest, Alison Hinds and Pinchers.

The Friday presentation might have got a smaller buzz then the two other days, but reggae artists like Etana and Maxi Priest both delivered great performances, which kicked off the festivities beautifully.

The energy on Saturday was inexplicable. From energetic performances by Demarco, Ms Hinds and  Sean Paul, the rain did not seem to phase the crowd anymore.

I must admit that it was my first time assisting the concert Sunday presentation. While some of you (including me) thought that this day was more for ”old people” well you are wrong. Vibing to some Sanchez, Luciano or Marcia Griffiths couldn’t have made me and the ganja smokers feel better. What better way to end the end the weekend then with the best of Roots and Reggae?

If you didn’t get the chance to go this year, well you have another one to decide. I have a feeling that next year will be hotter.

Yeah mon.

Stalley @ Ivy Nightclub, Montreal March 23rd (Privé Sunday)

For those who didn’t know, Maybach Music Group member Kyle ”Stalley” Myricks was at Ivy night club last Sunday.
Why artists always come in freezing weathers still remains a mystery to me. When we arrived around one, Montreal DJ Sweet La Rock played the latest club hits to everyone delight.  Other DJs  like Cream and Redd Dredd were also part of the party. I was surprised that no songs from our guest was even played, at least to introduce his music to some of the partygoers. Party heart, Swangin  anybody ?! It would have been great to hear him perform a song or at least say something… I don’t know, maybe he was just tired or just plain high (my sister later confirmed she was slapped by a very LOUD smell around him). Oh well, at least me and other fans got the chance to pose with him for a picture which was cool from his part.

Last night was proof that conscious music doesn’t get as much airplays as ”pop-a-bottle-screw-b*tches”  music does. It is up to us, music consumers to change this reality and listen REAL Music.

Now if you excuse me, I will go twerk my ass out to that new Tyga song and drink me some cheap Moscato.

Nice swag, Nice cup, Nice Pic ! #ivynightclub
