A Trip To Memory Lane – Cam’ron Concert Review

It was about time for Killa Cam to touch the Montreal ground. What was promised to his fans 10 years ago finally went down last Friday night, at the Club Soda. Luckily for us, Mtl was the first city that kicked off his First of The Month tour.

The show started off great with  performances from Dj and part-time rapper GrandBuda. The crowd also received free ”Eyes Low” t-shirts  from rapper Big H and his crew.

The waiting game was also pretty enjoyable , having  DJ Simahlak and Ryan Playground on the turntables. It’s always nice to see Deejays vibing to their own mix.

The performance from half of  DJ/Rap duo The Celestics Louie P was also a great time killer. Now, all I can think of is buying a Mighty Ducks shirt.

About an hour later, Cam’ron finally graced his devoted fans with his presence. Sporting a fitted cap and sunglasses, the Harlem native kicked off the show with the classics Get ‘Em Girls  and Killa Cam. It was hard not to reminisce about red bandanas or Harlem jerseys when we heard Bout it Part. 3,  Oh Boy, Suck it or Not, or the catchy  girl anthem, Hey Ma. Cam’ron also went back  in time when he performed Leave me alone and Down and Out from the street classic Purple Haze  album. Killa also performed Dipshits, his latest Dipset collabo, released earlier this year.

Cam’ron Giles has proven over  the years  how street music has a valuable place in hip hop with or without any platinum plaque.

And with or without Dipset.

MULA Grade:  9/10.  Wuss really good.

Igloofest 2014 ! (Review and pictures)

Like many of you, I could stay outside, playing in the snow for hours… until I would realize that I’d have 3 layers of clothes to remove before I could go pee.

Now, fast forward this childhood memory 20 years later with 1 layer of clothing (of course). Located in the Old Port, Igloofest is the best urban-cool way to reconnect with the outside temperature. Your mom’s hot chocolate is replaced by Tequila or Sour Puss shots. Your friends are no longer laughing at your awful winter apparel. It’s considered cool now. The snow fort you so proudly built to protect you from your enemies is now invaded by other drunk individuals.

This year, the annual event featured one of my favorite hip hop/producer DJ, Just Blaze. No longer rocking his long braids, Blaze collaborated with many artists like Ludacris, Jay Z, Kanye West, Cam’ron and Mariah Carey. Djs SHASH’U and RL Grime also helped heating up the place. I couldn’t feel my fingers after a while but i was in hip hop heaven. No worries.

For a mere 20$, I got to hear great international Djs and got access to numerous bars and even fun slide made out of ice (my fav). If you missed it this time, no worry since it comes back every year….just like winter. In the meantime, grab on your ugliest winter coat and go play outside.

M.U.L.A. Grade: 10/10   I’ll be back next year.With 3 pairs of socks.

Thanks Jeff for the free shots! They kept us warm!
