The first time I saw UGK on tv was when Jay Z’s ”Big Pimpin” first played on Musique Plus. Even though Bun and the late Pimp C released their first independent album in 1988, it is fair to say that being in a Jay Z video gave these two southern gentlemen a great exposure who would eventually make them popular in the East Coast. Even after the tragic death of his longtime partner in crime in 2007, the big bearded man still continued to do music. Having collaborated with big shots like Jeezy, Rick Ross or Gucci Mane, Bun B clearly has nothing to prove to all you suckas. That’s what he would say.

Since 2005, he released the ”Trill” compilations which could be a short term for too real. his last effort, Trill O.G. has had a great success over North America and has helped the rapper put Texas back on the map after the ”Chamillionaire, Mike Jones and Paul Wall early 2000s era.

If you are not busy tonight, come see this southern legend at Cabaret Underworld. It is rare in Montreal to see a southern rapper grace the stage. So twenty-five dollars is a pretty cheap price to see such an influential rapper.

images-3Now for you old and young Hip Hop heads. Another legend on his own, Hip Hop this time will be visiting us this week also. Ghostface Killah, also pushing  his forties, will be rocking the stage this Thursday night on our beloved  Plateau.  Less than a month after Method Man’s appearance at the Olympia (see review below), it is now time for another Wu-Tang member to pay us a visit..After the success of the Clan and Killah’s solo albums like Supreme Clientele (2000) or ”The Fish Series’‘ (2006-2007) Ghostface will forever stay an important figure of New York’s music legacy. After twenty years in the game, the New Yorker has been quiet nowadays. Shaolin even decided to show us his marital problems on Vh1’s reality show, Couple Therapy. Times have changed but the music remains.

Both of these artists show that age is really just a number. These two legends on their own don’t have to put music out every month/year to get love from us. This weekend, you’ll get to see the best of both worlds.
